About Me

Pleased to meet you! My name is Aashik Ilangovan. I'm a Software Engineer with a Master of Management and a Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering, both from the University of Calgary, alongside a minor in Entrepreneurship and Enterprise.

My academic and professional journey has been marked by a deep passion for technology, creation and appreciation for both the industry as well as the amazing people I've encountered along the way. I enjoy blending hands-on software development with a business analyst's eye for process and stakeholder needs, and I'm always seeking opportunities that challenge me and allow for continued growth. Feel free to check out any of projects linked here!

When I'm not coding, you can often find me enjoying nature, travelling or playing sports outside during summer or in the creative arts (Music, Art) at home during the winters.

I hope you are able to learn a little bit more about me through this brief portfolio of my work, experience and overall goals and ambitions for the future!

Personal Project

Photography Client Management API

Wanted real reps with PHP/Laravel and Vue outside of work, so I built the app I'd actually want as a photographer: a private dashboard for managing clients and shoots that hands off a finished gallery through one clean link — no account, no login, basically my own take on how Pixieset delivers photos to clients. Just gave it a full redesign into a moody, sleek dark theme that actually feels like something worth showing a client.

  • Built the REST API in Laravel, with Client 1—* Project 1—* Gallery relationships enforced through Eloquent and cascading deletes at the database level
  • Designed the public, unguessable share-link system (/g/<slug>) so a client can open their finished gallery with zero account or login
  • Split API Resources into admin vs. public serializations (GalleryResource vs. PublicGalleryResource) so a shared link can't leak client contact info or internal IDs
  • Built the Vue 3 (Composition API) SPA frontend, including a separate bare layout for the public gallery route via vue-router route meta
  • Redesigned the whole UI into a photography-focused dark theme, and set up Docker Compose for a decoupled frontend/backend/Postgres deployment alongside a zero-setup SQLite path for local dev
  • Utilized: PHP, Laravel 12, Vue 3, Vue Router, Axios, SQLite, PostgreSQL, Docker
